Dr John Dynes had worked in the construction industry for a number of years before returning to full time education in 1994, and graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering 1st (hons) in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Materials and Engineering Management.  He has since gone on to achieve a Doctorate of Education through a study exploring developing professional identities of vocational trainers. He has over 30 years part time and full time experience in Education and is currently the Divisional Manager for Construction at MKC Training where he is responsible for delivering Construction Trades training to Royal Engineers.

The work force supply is drying up. With fewer than one in ten young people considering construction as a career, the threat to the industry is very real. MKC Training look at initiatives such as the World Skills competition, how this can be utilised to inspire a diverse range of young people and how a non-traditional training model can impact engagement and retention of students once on their pathway into construction.
