Josh Smith

Quantity Surveyor, Kent Construction Consultants

About the Speaker:

Josh Smith MRICS began his professional career in London with Turner & Townsend within the Health & Education department working on projects throughout the private and public sector including Life Sciences. While successfully delivering Government Frameworks and schemes, Josh gained experience in both NEC and JCT Contracts.

Now working for Kent Construction Consultants, the East Kent and East London based Award-Winning Chartered Quantity Surveyors, Josh’s expertise has diversified significantly, working on an array of private client developments, from high-rise residential towers to high-end luxury estates. In addition, Josh has come on board to lead the firm's education and health projects, with a key focus on sustainability.

This unique contrast in client and sector experience has allowed Josh to perform all aspects of project delivery from inception to completion and gives him a deeper understanding on different contract types and procurement options to maximise clients value and the overall success of a project.

Session Title:

Do you NEC or JCT?

The biggest change we need to make as an industry is to collaborate. The knowledge held by our individual sectors and suppliers, when consolidated at the earliest stages, allows for better planned projects, more efficiency and significantly improved outcomes. Construction contracts of NEC4 form best promote collaboration, in difference to all its predecessors. So when should we use NEC over JCT, and when shouldn’t we?
